Planning for Co-Supervision

This is a worksheet from the Peer Professional Employer Toolkit.

Instructions: The leadership team and selected supervisors can print and use this worksheet to plan for co-supervision of the peer professional. For the plan to be actionable, provide as much detail as possible. Once the plan is complete, be sure to communicate with the peer professional and program staff.

  1. How will supervision roles and responsibilities be designated to the clinical supervisor and to the peer supervisor? Consider areas of expertise, strengths, and preferences when making assignments.

  2. What will be the structure of supervision? Be sure to note the frequency of sessions (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly), with whom (clinical and/or peer supervisor), and format (individual and/or group).

  3. What will be the ongoing topics of co-supervisor focus and coordination? (Example: administrative compliance; ethical considerations; professional boundaries; documentation requirements; professional development strengths and areas to improve.)

  4. How will the co-supervisors regularly communicate about these areas of focus? Consider frequency and existing communication channels (example: in person, virtually, email, electronic health record, other documentation format).

  5. How will the co-supervisors prepare—individually and together—for sessions with the peer professional? Consider coordinated use of supervision tools such as the agenda map and supervision session checklist.

  6. How will the co-supervisors be supported to execute this plan? When issues of coordination and other challenges arise, how will these be addressed?

  7. How will the plan for co-supervision be communicated with the peer professional and relevant other staff?
