This checklist is from the Peer Professional Employer Toolkit.

Instructions: Print and use this checklist to guide your work with the peer professional. If your organization is using a co-supervision model, use this checklist for coordination between supervisors. Supervision tools are bolded and linked. Please note that it is not expected (nor realistic) to complete all activities within a single session.

 Supervisory alliance:

  • You spent the first few minutes of the session engaging to develop the alliance.
  • You asked an engaging open question to draw out the peer professional’s perspectives.
  • You looked for strengths and offered an affirmation.
  • You listened carefully and offered just as many reflective listening statements as you asked questions (a 1:1 reflection-to-question ratio).
  • You offered a summary prior to transitioning to focusing.

 Focusing:

  • You used the Peer Professional Supervision Agenda Map to collaboratively set the agenda.
  • You obtained full peer professional input.
  • You suggested an agenda item—with permission.
  • Note topics (write in):

 Foster professional development:

  • You used an active learning method to develop a skill (example: Skill Practice).
  • You facilitated consultation and used the Consultation Guide to document results.
  • You discussed ethics, boundaries, or role clarity of peer recovery support services.
  • You explored the peer professional’s self-care or wellness.
  • You fostered the peer professional’s self-reflection.

 Evaluation and planning:

  • You completed evaluation of a sample of practice with structured observation (example: Structured Observation With Skill Counts).
  • You helped the peer professional create, review, or update Learning Plan.
  • You created a specific, measurable, and time-limited skill goal.
  • Your plan outlined peer professional deliberate practice.
