Develop Supportive Organizational Policies Worksheet 4: Service Delivery
This is a worksheet from the Peer Professional Employer Toolkit. Print this worksheet to help your organization develop supportive service delivery policies.
Policies that guide the delivery, coordination, and documentation of peer recovery support services are delivered, coordinated, and documented contribute to successful implementation (Gagne et al., 2018; Stefancic et al., 2021).
Service coordination
Policies that describe services need to clearly distinguish peer recovery support services from clinical or case management services while also explaining how services are complementary. Including recovery principles (see SAMHSA, 2023, SAMHSA’s 10 principles (PDF)) in service descriptions also supports implementation of peer recovery support services (Byrne et al., 2021; Chinman et al., 2014; Gagne et al., 2018). Doing so will clarify the peer professional role and limits of peer recovery support services, foster understanding across all staff, and inform supervision.
Documentation
Policy should clarify the purpose of documentation in the delivery of peer recovery support services and distinguish it from documentation by other professionals on the clinical team. Policy should also inform details regarding how, when, and what is to be documented by the peer professional.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality policies should be consistent with the Wisconsin Certified Peer Specialist Code of Ethics, P-00972A (PDF), yet should also clarify how service participants’ self-determination influences what the peer professional shares and with whom. Clarification is needed for how confidential information will be shared across multiple professional roles on the team.
