Plan for Integration Worksheet 3: Getting Ready for Supervision

This is a worksheet from the Peer Professional Employer Toolkit. Print this worksheet to help your organization plan for integration by getting ready for supervision.

Because the supervisor will play a critical role in hiring, onboarding, teaming, and ongoing professional development of the peer professional (Bell et al., 2025; Foglesong et al., 2022; Reeves, Loughead et al., 2024; SAMHSA, 2023; Scannell, 2021; Stefancic et al., 2021), getting ready for supervision is an important task. As a leadership team (including a supervisor), consider the questions below and document discussions in notes for later reference.

  1. Learn about supervising peer professionals. Review the comprehensive description of supervision found in the action section. What are your takeaways from this description? What got your attention?

  2. There are three models of supervising peer professionals: current clinical supervision, peer supervision, and co-supervision. Which model of supervision will be used? What is the rationale for this decision?

  3. Who will be the supervisor(s) of the new peer professional? Consider: supervisor is a champion of peer recovery support services; supervisor is knowledgeable about what peer professionals do; supervisor is interested in the role.

  4. How will the supervisor be supported to prepare for providing effective supervision? (Be sure to get selected supervisor’s input.)

  5. How will the supervisor support the peer professional’s onboarding process? (See onboarding subsection in the action phase.)

  6. How will the supervisor support the peer professional while also supporting other staff in the team integration process?

  7. In the initial delivery of peer recovery support services, how will the supervisor reinforce, guide, and support peer professional ethics, roles, and limits during group supervision?
