COVID-19: Moving Forward Together Grant Program

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced the Moving Forward Together Grant Program, a new funding opportunity to support continued efforts that promote health equity in COVID-19 vaccinations. Entities eligible for funding include but are not limited to: licensed facilities (adult and child), educational institutions, churches or religious groups, local or tribal community-based organizations, and non-traditional providers or locations that serve high-risk populations.

This funding award seeks to empower communities to remove barriers to and promote acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines, especially for communities that face challenges accessing medical care, or people who have historical trauma and mistrust of government agencies, the medical community, and/or vaccines due to past breaches in relationships.

About the funding source

This funding is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) largest investment to date, which supports communities affected by COVID-19-related health disparities. It is part of $2.25 billion provided through the Public Law 116-260 Coronavirus Response & Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act. The goal of this funding is to address COVID-19-related health disparities, and advance health equity among populations that are high-risk and underserved, including racial and ethnic minority groups and people living in rural areas.

Background information

Barriers to accessing COVID-19 vaccination and accurate information persists across the state. The Moving Forward Together Grant Program is a statewide Request for Application (RFA) that will help support trusted messengers to utilize a variety of strategies to create culturally specific messaging, partner with local businesses, community leaders, and community health workers, and implement block-by-block vaccination efforts. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are dispersed. Any questions regarding this funding opportunity can be directed to DHSMovingForwardTogetherGrant@dhs.wisconsin.gov.
