Training outside of Wisconsin

We accept lead training completed out of state if it meets requirements for comparable training in Wisconsin and is accredited where it is held.

These neighboring lead programs accredit training for lead abatement, inspection and risk assessment:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency accredits lead-safe renovation training in our neighboring states except for Iowa. It also accredits training on Tribal lands in and around Wisconsin except for the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. We cannot accept lead-safe renovation training without hands-on skills training and assessment.

If you take lead training outside of Wisconsin, submit these additional items with your application for certification:

  • An additional $25 processing fee,
  • Copies of all out-of-state training diplomas,
  • A recent photo for your certification card, and
  • A clear copy of your government-issued photo ID.

Getting your employees certified

Your employees must be 18 to qualify for certification. Before your employees can qualify for certification, they need training. Some certifications have additional requirements. Find information about training and any additional requirements, P-00484. (Available in English and Spanish.)

To register an employee for a class, contact the training company directly. Make sure to select training in the student's preferred language.

Share feedback on training

You can share your feedback about asbestos and lead training with DHS.

For training providers

Training that leads to certification needs DHS accreditation. Learn about applying for lead course accreditation.
