Board for Evaluation of Interpreters Continuing Education Program
Individuals who have received a Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) are required to maintain their certification by verifying that four continuing education units (CEUs) have been completed every two years. This requirement applies to all BEI certification levels granted through DHS: Basic, Advanced, and Master.
One contact hour is equal to .1 CEU.
10 contact hours are equal to 1 CEU.
Four CEUs are equal to 40 contact hours.
Certification cycles are on a standard two-year schedule. This cycle is July 1–June 30 of odd-numbered years. For example: July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2025.
Certification renewals are due by June 30 of odd-numbered years. For example: June 20, 2023.
Based on when initial certification is granted, CEUs will be prorated on a quarterly basis. If you become newly BEI certified in the middle of a certification cycle, you may not be required to obtain all four CEUs. The CEU cycle is broken down as follows:
Quarter Certification is Received | Months within That Quarter | Number of CEUs Required |
---|---|---|
1st Quarter | July, August, September of odd year | 4 CEUs |
2nd Quarter | October, November, December of odd year | 3.5 CEUs |
3rd Quarter | January, February, March of even year | 3 CEUs |
4th Quarter | April, May, June of even year | 2.5 CEUs |
5th Quarter | July, August, September of even year | 2 CEUs |
6th Quarter | October, November, December of even year | 1.5 CEUs |
7th Quarter | January, February, March of odd year | 1 CEU |
8th Quarter | April, May, June of odd year | 0 CEUs |
