Medicaid Member Experience Council

The Wisconsin Medicaid Member Experience Council (MMEC) is a group of people with experience using Medicaid. It’s a space to help make it better. The group advises the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and keeps us focused on our members. The goal is to make Wisconsin Medicaid the best it can be.

MMEC ambassadors:

  • Talk with the Medicaid Director and staff, get updates, have discussions, and ask questions.
  • Attend eight meetings per year.
  • Take part in one or two special projects each year to solve problems.
  • Participate for three years once selected by the Medicaid Director.

Read the MMEC Participant Guide (PDF) to learn more about the group.

Solving problems and making improvements

One in five Wisconsinites have health care through Medicaid. That's more than 1 million people, half of which are children.

Nobody knows Medicaid better than our members. Together, the MMEC and DHS talk about how Medicaid coverage is working, what gaps there are, and how we can fix them. This includes looking at:

Additions and changes to covered services

How services work together

Quality of services

Who’s eligible, how enrollment works, and renewals

How members and providers get information

Access to services

How Medicaid works for everyone, no matter their culture, language, and identity

Major issues affecting health services

Council ambassadors

Member voices matter! Council ambassadors include people from all parts of Wisconsin who represent different experiences. This includes:

  • People who have Medicaid benefits right now, or their caregivers
  • People who had Medicaid benefits in the last two years, or their caregivers
