The Division of Quality Assurance (DQA) regularly investigates home health agencies (HHAs). These are called surveys. Surveys ensure HHAs follow all state and federal rules.
Surveys are performed:
- When complaints are filed against an HHA.
- When self-reported complaints are filed.
- When an HHA needs to renew a license or certification.
When surveys show that an HHA isn't following all rules, they are issued a citation. Citations are written on a document called statements of deficiency. Citations explain what rule was broken.
