EMS: Patches

In Wisconsin, people who do EMS (Emergency Medical Services) work use a patch to identify themselves as EMS workers. There are two standard patches—one is for Tactical EMS and one is for all other levels of EMS.

Current EMS patch design

The EMS patch was last redesigned by Stefan Peterson of Mazomanie in 2010. The EMS office chose Stefan’s design out of more than 40 entries. Stefan volunteers with the Waunakee area EMS as an intermediate technician. He’s also a freelance graphic designer.

The current EMS patch design has:

  • Rolling fields to highlight the Wisconsin landscape and the rural roots of the EMS system.
  • An urban and rural skyline that speaks to the diversity of communities we serve.
  • The Rod of Asclepius on the Star of Life, leaning forward. It suggests action, energy, and the progressive nature of Wisconsin’s emergency care.
  • Traditional state colors, including green and gold.

Note: If you have an older EMS patch, you aren’t required to replace it with the new patch.

You must have a current Wisconsin emergency medical technician license to order patches. Galls confirms all license numbers with EMS before they process each order.
