EMS: Approved CPR and AED Providers and Courses

Emergency Medical Services personnel

The following are Department of Health Services (DHS)-approved providers and courses approved for emergency medical responders, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and paramedics and other health care providers operating as a legal crew member of an ambulance:

  • American Heart Association
    Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • American Red Cross
    BLS for Healthcare Providers
  • American Safety and Health Institute Basic Life Support (BLS) Course
  • Emergency Care and Safety Institute - (AAOS)
    Professional Rescuer CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • EMS Safety Services
    CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) for Professional Rescuers
  • Medic First Aid
    CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • National Safety Council
    BLS: Healthcare and Professional Rescuer
  • ProTrainings, LLC
    ProCPR for Healthcare Providers

Other licensed professionals

The DHS EMS Section has been charged with identifying approved CPR course providers. It is up to the individual licensing board to identify the specific CPR course(s) required for each licensure level. (Contact the Department of Safety and Professional Services licensing board, previously known as Regulation and Licensing, directly for more information.) The following are DHS-approved providers:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • American Safety and Health Institute (includes Medic First Aid)
  • Emergency Care and Safety Institute - (AAOS)
  • Emergency University - (CPR Pro Course)
  • EMS Safety Services
  • National Safety Council
  • ProTrainings, LLC
  • T-E-A-M CPR and AED

Any course offered by the above providers that includes the following is approved by this department to fulfill the CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training objectives for persons who are required, as a condition of licensure, certification, or registration to be proficient in CPR or in the use of an AED.

  • Instruction of CPR
  • Instruction in the use of an AED
  • Verified course completion through a certification/completion card
  • Certification not to exceed two years
