FoodShare benefits update: end of federal government shutdown

The government shutdown is over and the federal government is now open. We do not anticipate any further disruptions of FoodShare benefits for the remainder of the federal fiscal year. FoodShare benefits are fully funded through September 30, 2026. FoodShare members may continue to use benefits on their QUEST cards. For updates, visit the FoodShare News page.

You must complete an interview when you apply for FoodShare. When you are renewing FoodShare, you may need to complete an interview to keep getting benefits.

You can call or wait for your agency to call you to set up your interview. The interview will be done by phone or you can also ask to meet in person at your agency.

Confirming your information

When you go to your interview, we suggest bringing documents that prove your answers.

  • To verify who you are, we'd suggest bringing a driver's license or a passport.
  • To verify your income, we'd suggest bringing a paycheck stub or your most recent year's taxes if you are self-employed.
  • To verify medical costs and expenses, we'd suggest bringing something like a medical bill or a copy of your health insurance policy.
  • To verify shelter or utility expenses, we'd suggest bringing a lease, a mortgage payment, or a utility bill.

Find more examples of documents that can be used to confirm your information using Examples of Proof, P-02116 (PDF). The Wisconsin FoodShare Application, F-16019B also has more information about completing an interview and a list of example documents.

 Complete your interview on time

When you are renewing FoodShare, if you don't complete an interview (if it is required) by the end of the month when your renewal is due, you won’t get a full month of benefits.

For example, if you submit your renewal on time, but you complete your interview after your renewal month, your benefits will be reduced.
